Pray before you spiral

Anxiety · Philippians 4:6–7; read Philippians 4:4–9 for context

Adapted from Day 13 of A Merry Heart, A Happy Home by Serena Mojela. Teaching and prompts are condensed for this website.

Read and reflect

Read the Scripture passages listed above in your Bible, including the surrounding verses for context. Then take a moment with these thoughts.

A worried mind can rehearse tomorrow’s problems as though rehearsing them will solve them. In Day 13, Serena turns to a different practice: bringing specific requests to God with thanksgiving. Prayer does not promise the exact outcome we imagine. It gives us somewhere to bring our concerns while we continue doing what is wise.

A question to sit with

What worry keeps returning? Have you brought it to God specifically? What can you responsibly do today?

A step for today

Write one worry as a prayer request. Remember one past provision with thanks. Take one practical step, then release what you cannot control.

Take this with you

I can turn a worry into a prayer.

From the devotional’s “Take this with you” section. This is Serena’s reflection, not a Bible quotation.

Keep growing with care

These reflections offer spiritual encouragement. They do not replace individualized medical, mental health, legal, or pastoral care. Wise boundaries and appropriate support matter.
