A rhythm of prayer and thanks

Gratitude · 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; read 1 Thessalonians 5:12–22 for context

Adapted from Day 15 of A Merry Heart, A Happy Home by Serena Mojela. Teaching and prompts are condensed for this website.

Read and reflect

Read the Scripture passages listed above in your Bible, including the surrounding verses for context. Then take a moment with these thoughts.

Rejoice, pray, give thanks. Day 15 presents these words as a rhythm for ordinary life, rather than pressure to feel wonderful all day. A short prayer while preparing a meal or a moment of thanks before sleep can help retrain our attention. Giving thanks in a circumstance does not mean calling everything about it good.

A question to sit with

Where could you pause to pray today? What do you often forget to thank God for? How might a small pause change your attention?

A step for today

Choose three natural prayer cues: waking, preparing a meal, and bedtime. At each one, offer a sentence of prayer and a specific word of thanks.

Take this with you

I can return to God throughout the day.

From the devotional’s “Take this with you” section. This is Serena’s reflection, not a Bible quotation.

Keep growing with care

These reflections offer spiritual encouragement. They do not replace individualized medical, mental health, legal, or pastoral care. Wise boundaries and appropriate support matter.
